Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
Emily is located in Van Alstyne, TX. She offers lessons at her studio, in-home lessons for local students, and virtual lessons for students outside the area. Each option provides its own unique benefits, ensuring an enjoyable and effective experience for every student.
What is the age limit?
The best time to start piano lessons will be different for every child, but most will be ready between the ages of five to eight years old. Adult learners are also welcome. Students need to know their numbers and letters, calmly follow instructions, and focus for 30 minutes.
What is the time commitment?
In addition to the weekly 30-minute lessons, your child will receive a customized practice schedule for their current ability level. Most students will be encouraged to practice 5 days a week for at least 20 minutes. Small prizes will be awarded when practice goals are met.
Do I have to own a keyboard?
Yes, your child will need access to a full-length acoustic piano or digital keyboard on a daily basis to reach their practice goals. Toy pianos and apps will not be sufficient. Your family or friends may be willing to loan their instrument if you are not ready to purchase one yet.
Do I need to order sheet music?
Yes. The first few lessons will be spent evaluating your child's skill level and interests. Most piano books cost approximately $15 and will last 6-8 months. Students will be expected to bring their books to lessons once purchased. They can change curriculums at any time.
What if I need to reschedule?
Regular attendance is crucial to your child's musical development, but we understand that unpredictable factors can arise. Contact Emily as soon as you know about the schedule conflict, and we will work together to find a better time for that week.
